About GOAT BRAINS
A Melbourne based technology practice working with Australian businesses that depend on their systems and do not have the scale to employ a full IT function.
Why the business exists
Australian small and mid-sized organisations are served poorly at both ends of the market. Large consultancies are competent but priced and structured for enterprises, and the person who understood your problem in the sales meeting is rarely the person who does the work. At the other end, individual contractors are affordable and direct, but the discipline is inconsistent: scope is verbal, testing is optional, documentation does not exist, and the arrangement collapses the moment that person becomes unavailable.
GOAT BRAINS applies the practices that make large firms dependable — written scope, defined acceptance criteria, tested releases, documented hand-over, proper insurance — at a size where you still speak directly to the engineer building your system.
The name is an acronym. GOAT is greatest of all time, and the AI inside BRAINS is deliberate: artificial intelligence is a substantial part of what we build, and we would rather signal that in the name than in a slogan.
How we think about the work
Technology decisions are commercial decisions wearing technical clothing. Whether to build or buy, whether to migrate now or later, whether a risk is worth remediating — these are questions about money and consequence, and they should be put to you that way rather than as a matter of technical preference.
We would rather lose work than take an engagement we do not believe in. Telling a prospective customer that their problem does not need the thing they asked for is a poor short-term strategy and the only durable long-term one.
Where your data is held
Australian regions
Systems we build and operate are deployed to Microsoft Azure Australia East, using regional rather than global service tiers so that processing stays onshore as well as storage. The distinction matters and is easy to get wrong.
Privacy Act obligations
Keeping personal information in Australia avoids a cross-border disclosure under Australian Privacy Principle 8, which is a stronger position than any contractual assurance from an overseas provider.
You hold the accounts
Cloud subscriptions and tenancies are created under your ownership and billed to you, so you can see exactly what exists, what it costs, and who has access to it.
