Platforms and partners

The technologies we build on, why each one is here, and what our commercial relationship with them is — which in every case is none.

We take no margin on anything we recommend

Hosting, licences and subscriptions are bought in your own accounts, with your own payment details, at the price the vendor publishes. We do not resell them and we do not receive a commission, a referral fee or a rebate on any platform named on this page.

That is worth stating because the alternative is common. An adviser earning a margin on the infrastructure they specify has a reason to specify more of it, and you have no way to tell from the invoice. Ours is the boring arrangement: we bill for our time, you pay the vendor directly, and if a cheaper platform suits you better we have nothing to lose by saying so.

Microsoft Azure

Cloud infrastructure, identity and DevOps

Our default for Australian workloads with a Microsoft 365 estate already in place, and where Australian regions are a requirement.

Amazon Web Services

Cloud infrastructure and managed data services

Chosen where the service catalogue fits the workload better, or where a team already has depth in it.

Google Cloud

Data platform and analytics

Generally for data and analytics work rather than as a whole-estate choice.

Cloudflare

DNS, TLS, CDN and denial-of-service protection

Sits in front of most of what we build. The free tier covers more than most small businesses need.

WordPress

Content-managed sites

Where a non-technical team has to edit content regularly without waiting on a developer.

Next.js and Vercel

Applications and static sites

Where the content changes rarely and speed, security and hosting cost matter more than in-browser editing.

How a platform gets chosen

The decision is recorded in writing with the reasoning, so whoever inherits the system can see why it is built the way it is.

  • Whether your team can operate it after we hand over, which rules out more options than anything else.
  • Whether Australian data residency is available, and whether you need it.
  • What leaving costs. A platform you cannot exit is a commercial risk, not a technical preference.
  • Total cost at your actual volume, not at the volume in the pricing page example.
  • Whether the vendor has a credible record of not discontinuing the service.

Not sure which platform your problem calls for?

Describe it in a paragraph. We will tell you what we would use and why, including when the answer is something we do not sell.
